Dear Friends,

This is an invitation to support Bible education in the Christian Science movement. It is being sent to Bible program attendees who have seen the impact of these programs first hand.

I remember reading about an observer watching an eagle soar over a mountain valley as a storm approached. The observer anticipated that in the face of strong winds the eagle would contract its wings to offer less exposure to the winds that seemed so strong. Instead the eagle extended its wings to their fullest extent in the face of the storm. In so doing, the eagle used the very winds that seemed so ominous to lift itself and rise above the storm. What a great analogy for this invitation, and even better that this story came from a vintage leaflet put out by the Christian Science Publishing Society.

As a life-long Christian Scientist and current First Reader at my branch church, I can testify to the appearance of challenging circumstances facing our denomination today. The winds seem ominous against us. My involvement in Bible Study Seminars has encouraged me to expand my wingspread in the face of storms and step up my involvement in branch church activities. Since attending the Asilomar Bible conference several years ago, my wife and I have been hosting a monthly Bible study in our home. It has been a journey of growth in loving the Bible, loving our church, and sharing Christian Science, that has lifted us up and given us hope for the future.

Now as Chair of the Bible Study Seminars Board I am rejoicing with our Board to share our gratitude for the challenges we have faced and surmounted these last few years by spreading our wings.
